Phase 1

Interpretation-of-Statutes

Meaning, Object, and Scope of Interpretation; Literal and Golden Rule. Mischief Rule (Heydon’s Case) and Purposive Construction. Internal Aids (Preamble, Headings) and External Aids (Parliamentary History, Dictionaries). Legal Maxims (Ejusdem Generis, Noscitur a Sociis) and basics of Legal Drafting.

Phase 2

Proficiency in General English

Correction of common legal errors and vocabulary. Essay writing on legal topics and Précis writing for legal passages. Drafting of Formal Legal Letters and Case Comments.

Phase 3

Concept, Nature, and Historical Development of Human Rights

UN Charter and Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). International Covenants (ICCPR and ICESCR). Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993; Role of NHRC and SHRC. Judicial Activism and Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in Human Rights.

Phase 4

Foundation of chosen elective

(e.g., IPR Concepts / IT Act Definitions / Rights of Women).

Phase 5

Pre-trial preparation

Interviewing techniques and drafting of Pleadings/Memorials: Observation of Trial proceedings and techniques of Cross-Examination. Moot Court participation: Oral advocacy skills and Court decorum. Comprehensive revision and solving previous year CCSU question papers.
